Mohammad Jamalou, head of the Civil Registration Organization, said that from 19 September 2026 all Iranians will have access to the "My Identity Wallet" in the Sahim system (My Unique Identity System) and can use it as online proof of identity, ending the need for copies of the national ID card or birth certificate. The wallet holds digitally signed versions of both documents; Jamalou argued that when a person is physically present and biometrics such as fingerprint and photo are captured on the spot, demanding a physical national ID card is not justified.
