From 23 September 2026, banks must raise e-chequebook issuance and remote submission of electronic cheques in four stages to 80% by late July 2027. Paper chequebooks for individuals fall from up to 100 leaves to 10, and for companies are capped at 50 from late May 2027. The roadmap serves the Seventh Development Plan's requirement to stop paper cheque issuance by the end of the plan's third year.
